The top is a heating pad as well for keeping cups and utensils warm
Bought this a while ago and found it too much work to clean after each cup. Ended up getting using KCups and Nesspresso cups instead.
Been sitting there unused for awhile and hopefully some can be make use of it. It makes great coffee/cappuccinos.
